Tucked away in the hills just outside of Farmington is Titcomb Mountain, a small, friendly, family mountain that's been operating since 1938. Two wide-open slopes and 13 more traditional trails are served by two T-bars. Snowmaking covers 75% of the hill. Known for both its teaching programs and racing programs - offered for all ages - Titcomb's ace in the hole is its fine cross-country facility. Eighteen kilometers of very varied terrain can be found beginning right at the base of the alpine area, and Nordic racing programs are also offered. Terrain While the alpine layout may be modest, families love the feel of the place. There's a little bit of something for everyone, including a terrain park and a � pipe, and locals know that there's almost as much to ski or board between the runs as on them. Titcomb advertises its season pass by saying, "we don't call it a season pass, we call it a membership, and when you have one, the ski area is yours." So it appears to a casual visitor, but that doesn't mean Titcomb is a cloistered area. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. "They seem genuinely interested in helping us enjoy our day of skiing," noted one visitor. Nearby Farmington is a good-sized town and the home of a University of Maine campus. That means you'll find more choices for lodging, dining, shopping, and night life than you otherwise would in a town of this size.
